Charles R. Murray, Experienced Estate Planning Attorney, Joins GGTM Law

3 min read

Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy (“GGTM”) is pleased to welcome Charles R. “Chuck” Murray to its experienced attorney team.  Chuck concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, and trust administration.   Chuck’s addition bolsters GGTM’s Estate Planning Section that offers a wide range of estate planning services to its clients.  Some of these services include estate litigation, estate planning, charitable giving, will planning, personal or medical directives, probate, enduring powers of attorney, testamentary trusts, retirement planning for business owners, and family trusts.

Chuck has extensive experience in assisting clients in the development of estate plans that meet the client’s gifting objectives. Whether devising a simple will or creating a trust with multiple beneficiaries and charitable recipients, Chuck focuses on the desires of his clients and works with other professionals as necessary (financial planners, accountants, and insurance agents) to develop a sound strategy that enables the client to achieve his or her estate planning goals in a legally binding manner.  Chuck also supports closely held businesses and small business clients. Often these aspects are integral to a full estate plan with business owners as the succession plan for the family-owned business is a key factor of the estate plan.

Consistent with other attorney members of GGTM, Chuck has a solid background of practical experience that compliments his legal expertise.  Prior to attending law school, Chuck spent 17 years in the information technology sector, primarily working in a senior management role on network design and leading high performing project teams on technical assignments.

In 2017, Chuck retired from the US Navy Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander. His 23 years in the military began with his 1994 enlistment in the US Army Reserve. In 2003, he was awarded a Direct Commission in the US Navy Reserve. A sought-after subject matter expert, Chuck’s roles primarily included strategic mission intelligence work supporting various combat commands.

Chuck earned his undergraduate degree with honors in Business Administration from The University of Detroit Mercy in 1992. He then earned his Master of Business Administration degree with honors from Kennesaw State University in 1998. Chuck attended Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 2009.

Chuck is married to Lora Lee, a Registered Nurse, and they have two sons, Kyle and David. Chuck is actively involved in Scouts BSA and has been an adult leader for over 20 years. An Eagle Scout himself, Chuck and Lora Lee are the proud parents of two Eagle Scouts. The family attends Grace Episcopal Church in Holland. Focused on his family, Chuck enjoys spending time camping all over Michigan, biking, cooking, and relaxing with his wife.
