Scott concentrates his practice at Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy in the areas of real estate and business law, including mergers and acquisitions and negotiating various business agreements.
Experience
As a leading attorney in Muskegon, Scott has more than 38 years of experience practicing law and is highly respected in the area of real estate. He has represented developers, landlords, tenants, commercial and industrial property owners, school systems, townships, financial institutions, and individuals in matters relating to the acquisition, sale, leasing, and zoning of real property. Scott has published several articles and regularly speaks on a variety of real estate related topics, such as adverse possession, boundary disputes, oil and gas leases, real estate transfer taxes, liens, and title issues. Scott has handled the acquisition and sale of dozens of businesses in Michigan and throughout the United States. Scott enjoys resolving complicated real estate matters and negotiating complex business deals.
Sample Projects
- Serving as counsel to owner of 120-acre lakefront parcel for a “transformational” redevelopment of former industrial site.
- Served as counsel to two NYSE corporations formerly based in Muskegon, Michigan, assisting with numerous acquisitions and divestitures.
- Served as general counsel, for more than 30 years, to one of West Michigan’s largest private holding companies of manufacturing concerns and assisted the company in 22 acquisitions.
