Gielow Groom Terpstra & McEvoy (“GGTM”) is pleased to announce that Jacob C.B. Baelstrom and Charles R. Murray have been named as members in GGTM effective January 1, 2025, joining Eric R. Gielow, Rachel L. Terpstra, Keith L. McEvoy, Daniel R. Olson, and Nicolas M. Morano.

Jacob C.B. Baelstrom

Jacob is a Muskegon native and graduated as Oakridge High School’s 2012 valedictorian. Following high school, Jacob attended the University of Michigan where he earned his B.A. in Economics, summa cum laude, and graduated with distinction. Jacob then attended the University of Minnesota Law School, graduating with a Business Law concentration. With degrees in both economics and law, Jacob brings a unique understanding to GGTM, allowing him to analyze issues from multiple angles and devise creative solutions.

After graduating law school, Jacob jumped at the opportunity to return home to West Michigan by working with GGTM. Since joining the firm in 2019, Jacob has been an invaluable member of the GGTM team, assisting numerous businesses and individuals subject to an ever-expanding web of environmental rules and regulations.

Jacob also has extensive experience in business and real estate law. While focusing on transactions with environmental implications, he also regularly conducts traditional real estate and business transactions, including a number of complicated business acquisitions, buyouts, asset sales, and real property purchases.

Jacob and his wife Amie currently reside in Grand Haven with their daughter, Juliet.

Charles R. Murray

Chuck focuses his practice on estate planning and estate administration. An attorney for more than 15 years, Chuck helps individuals, families, and business owners preserve their legacy through proper estate planning. By working with clients to identify options to preserve the family and its wealth, Chuck helps families plan for allowing those assets to smoothly transition to the next generation. Planning now, for the expected with awareness of the unexpected, eases the transitions during times of a disability or death. Chuck offers clients a unique advantage because of his experience in business, having spent nearly two decades in the corporate world as a senior level manager and consultant. Chuck’s perspectives allow families to explore options that suit their goals and needs. In 2024, Chuck completed the Institute of Continuing Legal Education Probate & Estate Planning Certificate Program, increasing his skillset in advising his estate planning clients.

In addition to his IT and legal careers, Chuck served 23 years in the military, as an enlisted member of the US Army Reserve and then earned a commission with the US Navy Reserve. He retired in 2017 as a Lieutenant Commander.

Chuck is a West Michigan native, growing up in Grand Rapids. He attended Catholic Central High School and then the University of Detroit Mercy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Management. After a period of years in Atlanta, Georgia, working in the information technology industry and earning a Master of Business Administration, Chuck returned to West Michigan to attend Thomas M. Cooley Law School, graduating in 2009. He practiced law in Ottawa, Allegan, and Kent counties prior to joining GGTM in 2022.

Chuck’s civic involvement includes more than two decades as an adult leader with Scouting America (formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America). Chuck earned his Eagle in 1988, and both of his sons are Eagles as well. The City of Holland appointed him to the West Michigan Airport Authority in 2021 and he continues to serve that board. Additionally, Chuck is a member of the Ottawa County and Muskegon County bar associations and the Lake Michigan Estate Planning Council.
