1 min read

On August 20, EPA Region 5 (which regulates activities in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota) announced its intent to file a proposed Consent Agreement and Final Order against Michigan Petroleum Technologies, Inc. of Clio, Michigan for violations of the Clean Water Act.  More specifically, EPA alleges that Michigan Petroleum Technologies, Inc. did not prepare and implement a Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plan.  It has been agreed in principle that a civil penalty of $15,052 will be paid to resolve the violations, and $10,575 will also be spent to install equipment to monitor product levels and alert personnel if a leak occurs.  The value of the total settlement is $25,627.
